Information for parents on Kami set up, general use, and FAQ.

Updated over a week ago

Who is this for?

👤 This guide is for parents of a student using Kami.

The steps for using Kami may vary depending on whether your child's school uses a Learning Management System (or LMS) and which LMS they use. Learn more about the capabilities and functionality of Kami with each LMS.

What is Kami used for?

Kami is a web-based digital learning environment. From PDF annotations to AI-powered assistance, Kami helps teachers deliver accessible learning for all.

Rather than being restricted to printed paper resources, Kami allows students to work directly on digital files with engaging and supportive digital enhancements. Kami’s wide variety of tools gives students endless ways to express themselves, convey their thought process, and develop a deep understanding of the learning material.

Kami integrates with digital classroom platforms (aka LMS) such as Google Classroom, Schoology, Canvas, and Microsoft Teams. If your child’s school uses one of these systems to distribute assignments, they can be opened directly in Kami to be worked on and turned in— all in one easy workflow. Teachers can also view student files in real time to answer questions or provide fast, effective feedback.

Who needs a Kami account?

If your child is using Kami to complete work, they will need to sign in and create a Kami account (see the instructions below).

If your child’s teacher or school has a paid Kami plan, your child can connect to their teacher’s account to access all paid features. They do not need to pay separately. Parents also do not need a Kami account to help their child complete Kami work.

Setting up a student Kami account

Setting up a Kami student account requires installing the Kami extension, signing in to Kami, and then linking the student's account to their teacher’s account.

The exact steps for this process vary depending on which LMS your child’s school uses. Please select the instructions that are appropriate to your school from the list below:

If you are unsure about which is used, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

FAQ

Where is the Turn In button?

If your child has the Kami extension and is using Kami integrated with an LMS, you will have access to the Turn In button.

This is located in the top-right corner of the student's Kami screen and allows students to submit their Kami assignments directly back into the LMS from which they were assigned.

If the Turn In button is not visible here, a few factors may be causing this. Learn more about the most common reasons this can occur and how to fix it.

How do I open a Google Drive document in Kami?

You can open any document saved in Google Drive in Kami, regardless of the file type. Learn more about how to open Google Drive documents in Kami.

What devices can Kami be used on?

Kami is a browser extension, so it can be used on any device that has an internet connection.

As it is primarily designed to work with Google Chrome, we recommend using either a Chromebook or a Mac/Windows/Linux device.

However, Kami can also be used on mobile devices, such as a phone or iPad. Simply type kami.app into your device's browser to access Kami.
