Installing the Kami app in Google Workspace
To use the Classroom Kami add-on, your admin will need to install the Kami app inside Google Workspace. Click the button below to learn how to do this.
✏️ Your domain needs to be a Google Workspace for Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning Upgrade to use the add-on.
Creating your Assignment
To get started, you can go to your Google Classroom and the Course you want to create your assignment in, then create a regular Google Classroom assignment.
Once here, you'll see the Kami add-on at the bottom right. Select the Kami Add-on button.
Here, you can add your file from where it's stored.
Once you've selected your file, it'll look like the screenshot below. Add your final settings and select Continue.
You can tick the Assessment Mode. In this mode, once work is submitted, you're the only one with access until you return the graded files - giving you more control while putting students' knowledge to the test.
In the general assignment settings on the right, make sure to set a Due date & time for the assignment.
When students begin working on the assignment, they will see a countdown timer on the top left-hand side of their menu bar. This feature tells them how much time they have left to complete and submit their work.
When the assignment Due Date & Time is reached, any unsubmitted work will automatically Submit.
The students will only have access to the file until the Due Date & Time or until they Submit it (if they submit before that time).
NOTE: Once an assignment is graded, you can restore student access to the file if you Return the graded file to the student.
The final setup step is to check the other general assignment settings on the right. Here, you can add a point value for the assignment and other preferences. Once you are happy with these settings, you can use the Assign button at the top right.
Grading work as a Teacher
You can see your students' work in the Review work section under the assignment.
Once here, you can grade and give feedback, then return the work using the Return button.
You'll get a confirmation of the grade and the student you're returning work to. Click Return to confirm.
You also have the option to view (and grade) all student work in one Class View, by using the Open Class View button.
Each student's work is arranged in columns, with pages displayed in rows. At the top of each column are the students' names, assignment status, and a space to enter grades. You can efficiently grade one section at a time across the whole class (scroll to see more students' work)
