Kami has a free version, and a paid version for educators. This article shows how to use Kami with Google Classroom on the paid version. The paid version includes deeper integration to Google Classroom, such as assignment creation for teachers and the built-in Turn In button for students. 😍

To be able to use the Kami Google Classroom integration you must:

With the new Kami integration, there is now the ability to directly create a Kami assignment. To do this follow the steps below:

You need to go to the Classwork tab in your Classroom course, click the + Create button in Classroom, and select Kami Assignment from the list of options.

You can also create a Kami Assignment from your Kami dashboard by clicking the Google Classroom Assignment button.

Creating a Kami Assignment looks similar to creating a normal Google Classroom assignment - but you'll have more functionality. You can create a title, add text instructions, and attach a file using Google Drive or a local file. You can even pick a Kami Library template to assign. Kami assignments will always be set to:
"Make a copy for each student" (but you could change this default if you wish to).
"Students share one copy" means all students will work on the same file.
"Students cannot edit file" means they will only be able to view the file.

We've added some new features to help the students with setup, device- compatibility, and to allow the teacher more customization when setting up the assignment.

The first option available is the “Send Kami Instructions to Students.” This attaches a one-page Google Doc to the assignment with instructions for setting up Kami and getting started for the students to help get started with the assignment.

The second option is “Add Links for Mobile Devices” which attaches an extra link into the assignment that functions as an “open with Kami” button. This option is specifically designed for users who will be working from Ipads or similar model devices where the extension cannot be installed. Make sure to tick this option if your students use iOS devices. See the article here for more information.

And the final option available is the "Control Features". Tick this and then select or unselect the tools you'd like your students to have, or not to have, in their toolbox for that specific assignment. There are so many great Kami tools, but it can be really helpful to use the Control Features option to scaffold the tools (allowing just a few at a time) or help manage potential distractions by turning off tools that are not necessary for the task.

Once you have made your selection, you can choose Remember Options, so that you can assign the same group of tools next time. Then hit OK.

Once you've got the assignment set up, you push Assign, and the Assignment goes out to the students. {You can also use the arrow to "Save Draft" assignment or "Schedule" the assignment for later].

NOTE: Each assignment must be created in this way. You cannot copy a Kami assignment from another course. For each assignment, begin in the classwork tab, choose the + Create button, and select Kami Assignment.

It is however possible to copy a whole course. To do this use your Course Snapshot link https://customerpanel.kamihq.com/customer_panel/classroom_course_snapshots
This will allow you to make a copy of an entire Google Classroom with all the course materials.

What if you need to make a change to an assignment after it has been assigned?

Step 1: Open the file in the assignment that you have posted:

Step 2: Use the Edit Material button.

Step 3: Make any changes in Kami, and then use the Push Changes button to push the changes you have made, not just to your copy, but to each student's copy of the assignment.

Kami allows you to view the student's work in real-time. In the Google Classroom Grading window, you can mark, annotate, add stickers, and comments, and then Return the work to the student. And to save even more time, you do not need to Grade one file at a time like this...

You can choose the Grade by Page button to view all students' work in one full view; gain overall insight and be able to grade & individual feedback.
