What is the Text Recognition Tool?

The Text Recognition tool lets your device recognize text in PDF documents that weren't created in Kami.

Text Recognition makes any text on your documents selectable so that you can use:

How to use the Text Recognition tool

The Text Recognition tool can be found in two places:

  • Top menu bar

    After opening a document in Kami, just select the toolbox icon, then choose Text Recognition from the drop-down list.

    A progress bar will appear at the bottom of your screen. Once it's finished, you'll be able to enjoy all of Kami's tools on your document!

  • Kami Dashboard

    Open your Dashboard by clicking the Open Kami button from your Kami browser extension, or going to https://web.kamihq.com/.

    From here, select Text Recognition under the Edit file section, then follow the steps below:

1. Drag and drop the desired file from your device, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive into the Add File box. Alternatively, you can upload your file manually using the buttons below.

2. Once loaded, click Next to start Text Recognition. You'll see a progress bar counting down the seconds...


Once complete, you'll have the option to download to your device or export to Google Drive, OneDrive, or Open in Kami.

✏️ If your scanned PDF is still not allowing for word selection, it may be due to low-quality scanning or unrecognized formatting.
