How to use the Kami Questions tool with your LMS

Using the Questions tool and autograding assessments through your Learning Management System.

Updated today

Who can use this?

👤 The Kami Questions tool is available for Teachers.

👤 Requires a Kami paid plan.

Some features of this tool may not be visible if Kami AI has not yet been enabled. To enable, follow the steps in our How to turn on the Kami Questions AI tool article.

Kami’s Question tool allows teachers to create autograding assessment questions and view the results in Class View. With this tool, you’re able to:

  • Choose from a variety of question types.

  • Set correct answers and assign points for them.

  • Test and review the questions before assigning them in your LMS.

  • View autograded results of students’ work with the Class View feature.

Creating a Question with the Question tool

For detailed guidance on how to create questions using the Questions AI tool, check out this article:

Using the Hint feature

If you're asking your students a particularly tricky question, you can offer them a helpful hint should they need it.

You can find the Hint feature in the settings menu, at the very bottom of each question.

Once the Settings are showing, you can find the toggle under Add hint. Add your hint here so your student can click on the light bulb icon next to the question to receive the hint, as shown below on the right-hand side of the screen:

Previewing your question

  1. Click the Binoculars button on the top navigation bar of the question panel.

  2. In this mode, you can interact with the Questions like a student would.

  3. Select an answer and click the View Results button to test the autograde feature.

  4. Click the Exit button to return to edit.

Placing your question on the page

Select the Display on page option to place a question on the page. You can also click and drag the question from the Question Panel.

Once on the page, you can have it appear as a Full question or a Marker, which opens the full question in the Question panel when selected.

Assigning through your Learning Management System

Google Classroom

Assign the document by clicking the Assign button on the top navigation bar.

Canvas and Schoology

For Canvas and Schoology, you should first save your document with the Questions you made to Google Drive or OneDrive.

Once the document is saved, create a Kami assignment directly in Canvas or Schoology and attach the saved document. After you assign this to your students, they'll have access to the document with the questions for them to answer.

Answer view with Questions via Kami Class View

Once students have turned in their work, open Class View to view the graded results in Kami. The Question tool has an answer system specifically designed for this purpose.

The answers section can be found at the top left of the Class View document. Your students' answers will be shown horizontally in rows beside each question, as seen below:

How autograding works

Multiple Choice and Dropdown

  • Single-answer questions:

    • If a student's answer matches the answer key exactly, it'll be graded as Correct.

    • Otherwise, it will be graded as Incorrect.

  • Multiple-answer questions:

    • If a student's answer matches all correct options exactly, it'll be graded as Correct, and full credits given.

    • If a student’s answer includes no correct option, it'll be graded as Incorrect, and no credit will be given.

    • If a student’s answer includes at least one incorrect option, it'll be graded as Inaccurate, and no credit will be given.

    • You can adjust the points manually as well.

Short Answer

  • If the Allow partial matches setting is not selected, student answers must be exactly the same as your answer key (the same word order, spelling, spacing, and punctuation).

  • When the Allow partial matches setting is selected, student answers can be partially correct. Naturally, if the student's answer matches the answer key exactly, it'll also be graded as correct.

  • You can adjust the points manually as well.
