Stylus support for Kami

Kami's touch screen compatibility allows you to create smooth and precise strokes with a stylus.

"Passive" vs. "Active" stylus support

These terms refer to how the stylus interacts with the device:

Passive styluses do not use any electronics or connectivity with the device to interact with the touchscreen; they typically use a capacitive tip (usually rubber) to mimic the press of a finger on the screen.

Whereas active styluses can connect to the device (often via Bluetooth) and have a capacitive tip.

Using a stylus in Kami

When a stylus with a capacitive tip is used in Kami, touch scrolling will automatically be enabled. A pop-up will appear at the bottom of the page to notify you of this. To revert this change, just select Disable.

Stylus detected message in Kami

Touch scrolling lets you scroll the page with your finger whilst drawing and annotating in Kami using your stylus. The following Kami tools can be used freehand with an active stylus:

  • Highlighter/Strikethrough/Underline

  • Drawing tool

Support for Apple Pencil

Kami also supports Apple Pencils (used on iPads).

When using Kami through the Chrome iOS app, Kami will auto-detect the input and enable touch scrolling, as mentioned above. Learn more about using Kami on Mac devices.
