What is the Equation tool?

The Equation tool is a variant of the Text Box tool that lets you quickly add mathematical, scientific, and musical symbols directly into your document-- no copy and paste required.

How to use the Equation tool

Select the Equation tool from your toolbar, and click anywhere on the page to place the Equation text box.

When you select the Equation tool from the toolbar, you'll see the following options:

1. Font Size (Also available in the Action bar once the equation text box is placed)

2. Symbols (Math, Science, and Music)

3. Font Color

4. Eyedropper and More Colors

   

Equation tool options

Once placed on the page, an Action bar appears when you hover over the annotation.

1. User Icon — The initials of the user who made the annotation

2. Move — Move the annotation freely

3. Font Color

4. Rotate (90°)

5. Font Size

6. Save to Annotation Bank — Save for later use (teachers only)

7. Delete

8. Freehand Rotation

   

Symbol library

The library of symbols can be found by selecting the pi (𝞹) icon on the Equation tool menu bar.

This option is also available within the Text Box tool's action bar.

When using the Text Box tool, just select the insert function (𝑓𝑥) icon on the action bar at the top of your screen, then click the pi (𝞹) symbol.
