Kami uses a dual-saving system, consisting of an internal Kami cloud sync and a Google Drive sync (we are a Google partner).

How does Kami's Cloud sync work?

As a cloud based service, we save a file's annotations, but not the files themselves. When you open a file in Kami, we remember the characteristics of the file. When you re-open the file, we recognize the file and the file's annotations are loaded based on correctly identifying the file.

Note: Using the Share Document button is the only exception to our not uploading the file rule. You can remove the upload at any time by clicking the Sharing button and selecting "Remove upload" at the bottom.

The Kami cloud sync is almost instantaneous. The screenshot below shows you when your annotations have been saved to the Kami cloud sync.

If you are working offline, you will instead see this icon:

This means that you need to wait to come back online before closing the document, or your annotations will not be saved to the Kami cloud sync.

How do I use the Google Drive sync?

If you want a file directory to save your files, we would recommend using Google Drive.

You can upload any file to Drive by selecting the Save button in the top right (looks like a floppy disk), and then selecting Upload under the Google Drive heading.

After you have uploaded the file, you can save back to Drive by selecting Save now. This option is found under the Google Drive heading.

If you open the file directly into Kami from Google Classroom or Google Drive, it will automatically be uploaded. Keep in mind that the Auto save feature takes around 30 seconds to kick in from when the annotation is made.

Note: The Kami cloud sync is separate from the Google Drive sync, and that they have different alerts.

But my work isn't saving! What now?

You might be looking at a different copy of the file. Click Open File > View All. This will show you every copy of the file that you have made. Check each copy to find your work.

What if I still can't see my work?

Email our Customer Success team at support@kamiapp.com. Please use the Share Document button to share the file with us. Send us screenshots or screencasts and tell us which annotations are missing and where the annotations should be. Include the URL and file name in the screenshots/screencasts. Tell us who experienced the issue, an approximate time and date when the work was made, and when you realized there was an issue. We love details - they help us fix the problem as quickly as possible!
