Learn how to set up Kami’s external tool integration with Moodle as a Moodle Admin.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Who can do this?

👤 The Kami external tool integration can be installed by Moodle users with Admin privileges.

👤 Requires a Kami paid plan.

If you do not have admin privileges in Moodle, you will not be able to complete the steps below. Please contact your Moodle Admin (usually one of your Tech admins) to install the Kami integration using the steps outlined in this article.

Installing the Kami external tool integration

If you are a Moodle Admin for your school or district, you can easily install the Kami integration using these simple steps.

1. Navigate to the Manage tools page

After logging in to Moodle, select Site administration from the top menu bar.

Select the Plugins tab, then scroll down in the Activity Modules list to find and select Manage tools (under External tool).

2. Enter the Kami Tool URL

Once on the Manage tools page, you'll have the option to Add a tool using the Tool URL.

To add the Kami tool, paste the following URL in the Tool URL field: https://web.kamihq.com/api/lti/oidc/register

Then select the Add LTI Advantage button.

⚙️ You also have the option to configure a tool manually. Selecting this will open the External tool configuration page, where you can enter the tool details individually. These fields will be automatically filled in if the tool is added via URL using the above-mentioned steps.

3. Activate the Kami tool

Any external tools currently configured in your Moodle environment will be displayed in the Tools section, towards the bottom of the page. After adding the Kami tool, it will be shown here in Pending status.

Select Activate to change the status to Active, then you're all set!

Enabling the Kami external tool in Moodle courses

With the Kami external tool now active, teachers will be able to create Kami assignments when adding an activity or resource to a course.

For the Kami external tool to appear as an option in the course activity chooser, it must be enabled in the course under More > LTI External Tools by setting the Show in activity chooser toggle to on. Learn more about creating Kami assignments in Moodle using the Kami External Tool.

Viewing/Editing the Kami App external tool

Once the Kami external tool has been added, the following 3 icons will become available when viewing the in the Tools section (from Site Administration > Plugins > Manage tools):

🔍 Tool configuration details

This opens a pop-up window containing the Tool configuration details. An email button is also available to send the configuration info via email.

✏️ External tool configuration

This opens the External tool configuration page (the same page that opens when you select the configure a tool manually option when adding a tool). All Tool settings are auto-populated when adding a tool by URL.

The drop-down sections (Restrict to category, Services, Privacy, & Miscellaneous) contain various additional settings that can be modified.

🗑️ Delete

This removes the tool from your Moodle environment. A pop-up will appear requesting confirmation to delete.
