What is the Shapes tool?

The Shapes tool lets you quickly and easily create perfectly drawn shapes in your document, just by clicking and dragging.

 

How to use the Shapes tool

Select Shapes from your toolbar. Click and hold anywhere on the page to start drawing your selected shape (you can also use your finger or a stylus if using Kami with a touchscreen).

  1. Stroke Thickness (or FILL)

  2. Stroke Type (straight or dotted strokes)

  3. Transparency

  4. Square

  5. Ellipse

  6. Triangle

  7. Polygon (🔒)

  8. Line

  9. Color palette

  10. Eyedropper + More Colors

💡 To draw a filled-in shape (rather than just an outline), select the Stroke Thickness option, then select FILL at the top of the list.

 

 

Using the Shift key to create specific shapes

Holding down the Shift key lets you quickly create perfect shapes. See below for what you can create when holding down Shift with each selected shape:

  • Insert Rectangle + Shift = Draws a square.

  • Insert Ellipse + Shift = Draws a circle.

  • Triangle + Shift = Draws a right triangle.

  • Polygon + Shift = Draws a regular polygon (equal sides and congruent angles).

  • Line + Shift = Draws a vertical or horizontal line.

The shapes below in black were drawn with the Shapes tool, and the shapes in purple were drawn with the Shapes tool while holding the Shift key.
