What is the Picture Dictionary tool?
The Picture Dictionary is an accessibility tool that helps students understand unfamiliar words by showing visual representations alongside the text they read.
By combining images with language support, the Picture Dictionary strengthens comprehension and memory, without leaving the page.
How to use the Picture Dictionary tool
1. On the Kami toolbar, open the Understand tools menu and select Picture Dictionary.

2. Use your cursor to highlight a word in your document's embedded text.
This will open the Picture Dictionary, where you can view the selected word in image form.

📝 New images are constantly being added to the Picture Dictionary tool. Please note that some word selections may not yet have an image available.
Using Read Aloud with the Picture Dictionary
To hear the selected text read aloud, select the play button in the Picture Dictionary modal.

Sign language imagery in Picture Dictionary
Selected words may return an image of the American Sign Language (ASL) sign for that word in the Picture Dictionary tool.
