Installing the Kami external tool integration in Canvas

Get the most out of your Canvas workflow with the Kami external tool integration.

If you have admin privileges in Canvas, you can use the automatic installation method for a quicker install and automatic updates to the tool afterward.

The Kami external tool integration helps you get more out of Canvas. With this installed, you can:

 


 

Installing the Kami external tool integration

Kami's external tool integration can be added to either a specific course or to all the courses within your Canvas site if you are an administrator.

1. Navigate to the Settings section of your Canvas site or course, and then select the Apps tab.

In the External Apps view, use the search field to find the Kami app. Once you select Kami, the app details page will open.

3. Click Add App to install the Kami app. Here, you will be prompted to add a Consumer Key and Shared Secret.

To generate your Consumer Key and Secret, select the button below:

⛔️ Please ensure that you use the same Key and Secret across all of your courses.


4. After generating, input your Consumer Key and Shared Secret. Once you're finished, click the Add App button to complete the installation.

After installing, you can use the View App Configurations button to edit anything related to the Kami app or confirm that it was installed successfully.

 


Alternative Install Method: External URL

If you do not have a hosted domain or cannot see the App Center, you can still install Kami via the External URL method:

1. As with the previous set of steps, navigate to the Settings section of your site or course, and then select the Apps tab and select the Add App button.

2. Choose By URL as the configuration type, then complete the setup using the link below as the configuration URL, as well as the key and secret for your particular license:

3. Click Submit to complete the installation.
