What is the Drawing tool

The Drawing tool lets you unleash your creativity with freehand drawing, color fills, and smart geometry tools—including rulers, compasses, and protractors—for pixel-perfect precision using a mouse, stylus, or your finger. Express yourself with 100+ color options, or use the eyedropper to sample any shade.

How to use the Drawing tool

  1. Select the Drawing tool from the Kami toolbar.

  2. Choose between two modes: Drawing mode (selected by default) lets you sketch freely anywhere on the page, while Paint Bucket mode instantly fills any enclosed space with color.

    1. To draw using Drawing mode: Click and drag on the page with your mouse. On touch-enabled devices, draw directly using your finger or a stylus.

      You an also customize every stroke with adjustable thickness, type, transparency, and color settings. Use the eyedropper to copy a specific color from anywhere in your screen.

    2. To fill color with Paint Bucket mode: Click or tap inside any shape or space to fill it with color. The color fills the entire area up to its boundary—if there are any gaps in the outline, color will bleed out into the surrounding space.

Drawing assist tools

The Drawing tool includes interactive guides—such as a ruler, protractor, and compass—that constrain your strokes to mirror physical drafting tools.

How to use the Ruler to measure length, and draw precise lines

  1. Select the Drawing tool from the toolbar, then choose Ruler from the flyout menu.
  2. To move, click and drag near the middle of the ruler. To rotate, drag either end of the ruler, or click the rotating arrows icons found in the center of the ruler.

  3. Start drawing precise lines by clicking and dragging along either edge of the ruler. Use the measurement markings to draw your line to an exact length.

  4. To close the ruler, click the x icon found in the center of the ruler, or switch to a different tool on the toolbar.

 

How to use the Protractor to measure angles, and draw perfect curves or circles

  1. Select the Drawing tool from the toolbar, then choose Protractor from the flyout menu. You can select between a 180-degree protractor and a 360-degree protractor.
  2. To move, click and drag near the middle of the protractor. To rotate, drag near the edges of the protractor. To change the size of the protractor, click the + or - icons found in the center of the protractor. Reset the position by clicking the rotating arrows icon.

  3. Start drawing perfect curves and circles by clicking and dragging along the edges of the protractor. You can swap the direction of the angle measurements by clicking the flip counterclockwise icon found in the center of the protractor.
  4. To close the protractor, simply switch to a different tool on the toolbar.
 
 

How to use the Compass to draw perfect curves and different size of circles

  1. Select the Drawing tool from the toolbar, then choose Compass from the flyout menu.
  2. To move, click and drag the center part of the compass. To rotate, drag the top handle. To change the radius, drag the leg with the pencil outward or inward . Click the measurement label to toggle between inches and centimeters.

  3. Start drawing perfect curves and circles by clicking and dragging the pen part of the compass in a circular motion.
  4. To close the compass, simply switch to a different tool on the toolbar.
