Convert File prompt when grading
"This file needs conversion to work in Kami" message appears when grading student work.
Who is this for?
👤 Teachers grading assignments with Kami through an LMS.
Convert File prompt
- For example: A student has shared their writing assignment from Microsoft Word as a .docx file, which is the default file format from Word.

To annotate these files with Kami, they must first be converted to PDF format.
Selecting the Convert button when this prompt appears allows you to quickly convert Word, PowerPoint, and most image files to PDF format.
The file will then open in the Grade with Kami view for you to annotate. If the file contains any text, you will also be prompted to run Text Recognition to make it selectable.

Sharing the converted file with your student
For the student to view any annotations you made on the converted file, it needs to be shared with them via a Kami sharing link.
This is because the conversion process creates a new PDF copy of the file for you to annotate, separate from the student's original file.
📝 This does not affect grading, therefore, adding a score and returning the assignment back to the student will function as normal. They will just not be able to see any of your added annotations on their file.
1. To share your annotated copy, first select the Share button on the Kami navigation bar.

2. In the window that appears, find the Share document link section (near the top of the window), then select Copy next to the generated link.

3. This link can then be pasted in the comment section to be shared with your student, who can then open it to view your annotations.
