How Google OU deployment works

Google OU deployment requires you to have both Kami license administrator access and admin access to your Google Workspace domain.

This functions by syncing information. It syncs your Google OU basic user information to your Kami license, automatically adding all users from the selected OUs to the Kami License.

Keep in mind that this is only a one-way sync. If you add or remove users from the license, this will not be reflected on the OU side. If you add or remove users from the OU side, it will be reflected on the Kami license after the next automatic sync.

❗️ If you change anything on your Google Workspace OU, i.e adding or removing an organizational unit. Then you need to redeploy/re-sync the Google OU deployment on Kami

How to set up your Google OU deployment

The first thing you need to do is create a Kami account using your Google Workspace admin email. This email also needs to be a Kami license admin. If you are not a Kami license admin, the next steps won't be possible. If you need help adding your Google Workspace email to the license admin list, please contact support@kamiapp.com.

Opening your license dashboard

Now go to your license dashboard and find the license on which you want to deploy your Google OU.

Finding and managing your license

In the section, select the button to access a particular license with which you want to start the Google OU sync.

After clicking the Manage License button, you should see your license details. Click the Add Users tab to switch to the deployment section.

Authorizing your Google Workspace Admin account

Once you're in the Add Users tab, scroll down until you see the option Deploy License to Google Workspace Organization Unit

After you select the Deploy to Google OU button, it will ask you to Authorize. You will need to reauthorize this sync every 6 months to keep it active.

Selecting and managing the Organization Units you want to deploy to

Using the checkboxes, you can select which organizational units you want to deploy to. The user count is displayed on the right-hand side of the selected units.

You can also change the user segmentation to Teacher or Student. Once you have selected everything you want, click the Save button at the top right.

❗️ Things to be aware of

  • This will not work if the license is currently deployed via the Domain-wide method.

  • Suspended users in the OU will not be synced; only active users will be synced.

  • Any user who is removed from the Kami License and is still in one of the OUs will be re-added to the Kami License when the automatic sync kicks in.

  • When the OU sync is removed, all users added through the OU will also be removed from the license.
