What is the Text Recognition Tool?

The Text Recognition tool is a paid feature that allows your computer to read the readable text on a PDF document that wasn't created in Kami.

Text Recognition makes the text on your documents selectable so that you can use:

  • The Dictionary tool

  • The Read Aloud tool

  • Markup tools

  • Attached comments

Where is the Text Recognition tool?

The Text Recognition tool can be found in the Menubar or Dashboard.

Menubar

Open a document in Kami. Select the hamburger Menu icon, then Text Recognition in the dropdown list.

A progress bar will appear at the bottom of your screen. After a moment, you can enjoy all of Kami's tools on your document!

Dashboard

Open your Dashboard by clicking your Kami browser extension or going to https://web.kamihq.com/. From here, select Text Recognition in the Edit file box.

Add your chosen file by dropping and dragging it from your device, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive. Alternatively, you can select your files manually using the buttons below.

Once loaded, click Next to start Text Recognition.

You'll see a progress bar counting down the seconds...

Once complete, you can download it to your device or export it to your Google Drive, OneDrive, or Kami (the three icons from left to right).

โœ๏ธ If your scanned PDF is not allowing for word selection, it may be due to low-quality scanning or unrecognized formatting.
