You can open a file from Google Classroom in Kami on your iPad using four possible methods. Below is a table explaining the benefits and drawbacks of each to guide your choice.

Steps for methods 1-4 are below.

1. Using Google Drive [best practice]

  • Go to web.kamiapp.com in your browser.
  • Click Sign in and log in using your account details.
  • Select Open from Google Drive.
  • Find the folder labeled Classroom, this contains all the documents saved in your Google Classroom account.
  • Navigate to the class you are expecting to work from and select the right document.
  • Click on the assignment.

Protip: in Safari, add Kami to your home screen for easy access.

Your file will now open in Kami and you can use the tools to annotate and edit the document.

To turn in your assignment, simply click the Turn in button in the top right-hand corner, as you normally would on all other devices.

2. Using a shared link

A teacher or any Kami user can share their Kami assignment by creating a shareable link, as shown here: https://help.kamiapp.com/en/articles/647938-how-can-i-share-my-file

When this link is sent to the student (via private message within Google Classroom or a separate email) they can access their assignment in Kami by simply clicking it.

3. Using the Google Classroom iOS app

  • Open the Google Classroom app and navigate to the file you wish to open in Kami.
  • Click on the file. It will open as a document or PDF.
  • Click the ‘open in new window’ icon in the top right-hand corner (this looks like a square with a diagonal arrow through it).
  • In the new window that opens you will now see an Open with option at the top of your file. Click this and select Annotate with Kami from the drop-down menu.

Your file will now open in Kami and you can use the tools to annotate and edit the document. To turn in your assignment:

  • Click the Turn in button in the top right-hand corner. This will save your work to Google Drive.
  • Now click the Done button which will appear in the same place as the Turn in button. This will take you out of Kami to view your file as a document or PDF.
  • Click the cross in the corner of the original file to return your Google Classroom.
  • Select the green Turn in bar in Google Classroom to submit your work.

4. Using Google Classroom through the browser

To use this step, you must NOT have the Google Classroom iOS app installed, because if you do going to classroom.google.com will cause the iOS app to open instead.

  • Go to classroom.google.com and log in to your account.
  • Go to your specific classroom and find the file you wish to open in the Classwork tab.
  • Click on the file so that it opens up as a document or PDF.
  • Click the three vertical dot icon in the top right-hand corner, next to the printer icon.
  • Select Open in new window.
  • In the new window, click the three horizontal dot icon in the top right corner of the Chrome browser (above the three dots we clicked in the previous step).
  • From this menu select Request Desktop Site.
  • At the top of your file, you will now have an Open with option. Click this and select Annotate with Kami from the drop-down menu.

Your file will now open in Kami and you can use the tools to annotate and edit the document.

To turn in your assignment, simply click the Turn in button in the top right-hand corner, as you normally would on all other devices.
