What is the Predictive text tool?
Predictive text in Companion supports students and educators by suggesting words while typing in text fields across supported websites.
This feature helps:
Improve spelling accuracy.
Increase writing efficiency.
Support learners who benefit from scaffolded writing support, including emerging writers, multilingual learners, and students with learning differences.
How to use the Predictive text tool
1. Turn on Predictive text
Click the Predictive text button in the Kami Companion toolbar. When enabled, word suggestions will appear as you type in supported text boxes.
2. Start typing in a text field
Select any text box on the web page and begin typing. Word suggestions will appear as you type. You can:
Click a suggested word to insert it.
Use your keyboard to select suggestions if number labels are enabled.
3. Use Topics to improve suggestions
Predictive text now includes Topics, which help tailor word suggestions based on what you are writing about.
Click the Topics icon in the Predictive text toolbar.
Search for and select one or more topics.
Toggle topics on or off at any time.
When topics are selected, Predictive text will prioritize words related to those topics in its suggestions.
Important:
Topics influence suggestions, but do not limit them. You will still see general writing suggestions alongside topic-related words.
If no Topics are selected, Predictive text will work as normal with general suggestions.
Topics are designed to support common subjects and themes. We know that vocabulary needs can vary by classroom, and we are continuing to improve and expand Topics support over time.
Topics are only supported for US English currently, UK and Canadian topics will be coming soon.
4. Change language or open Settings
Click the language button to open the Predictive text languages menu. From here, you can choose a language or open the Settings modal.
Other Predictive Text options
From this modal, you can:
Adjust the number of suggested words displayed.
Change the font size of suggestions.
Toggle Read on hover to hear words read aloud.
Toggle Spelling assist (Note: this feature is enabled by default for all users)
When enabled, Predictive text will suggest the likely correct spellings based. on the characters typed.
When disabled, Predictive text will only suggest words that match the characters typed so far.
Toggle Show numbers next to words to select suggestions using your keyboard.
