What is the Adjust tool?
The Adjust tool allows teachers and students to adjust the difficulty of selected text using an interactive difficulty slider.
By moving the slider toward Easy or Hard, users can instantly regenerate the content at a different reading level or complexity, without altering the original meaning.
✔️ The levels used in this tool are defined using AI to target the median range of standard reading scores for each grade. This ensures that the generated text matches the typical complexity of a student's reading level.
This tool is especially helpful for differentiation, scaffolding, and increasing or decreasing rigor on demand. Adjust uses the same AI modal experience as the other Companion Understand tools. Generated content can be copied for use elsewhere, while the original text remains unchanged.
How to use the Adjust tool
1. Select Content to Adjust
Use Default Selection or Area Selection mode to select text on the page. Click on the Adjust feature to open the Understand tools modal.
2. View and adjust the content
The summary will appear automatically in the modal. Select the Adjust toggle to make the content easier or harder.
3. Use the Quick Toggle for more options
Save time with the quick toggle feature, which allows you to switch between Understand tools without re-selecting content on the page.
Other Adjust options
From this modal, you can:
Adjust the playback speed (between 0.1x and 2.0x).
Change the language of the summary.
Copy the summary to use across the web.
