What is the Summarize tool?
The Summarize tool uses AI to condense selected text, sections of a webpage, or an entire document into a clear, concise summary. It helps users quickly identify key ideas and essential information without needing to read lengthy or complex content in full.
Summarize works with both text and visual content and is especially useful when students encounter unfamiliar topics, dense academic language, or lengthy texts.
How to use the Summarize tool
1. Select content to Summarize
Use Default Selection or Area Selection mode to select text, images, diagrams, graphs, or other content on the page. Click on the Summarize feature to open the Understand Tools modal.
2. View and listen to the summary
The summary will appear automatically in the modal. Select the read aloud feature to hear the summary.
3. Use the Quick Toggle for more options
Save time with the Quick Toggle feature, which allows you to switch between Understand tools without re-selecting content on the page.
Other Summarize options
From this modal, you can:
Adjust the playback speed (between 0.1x and 2.0x).
Change the language of the summary.
Copy the summary to use across the web.
