Key features and benefits
Setting Feature Control directly within your LMS workflow ensures consistency and a focused learning experience for every student.
Assignment Integrity: You can control access to advanced tools to ensure assignments are completed fairly.

Requirements
The use of Feature Control within your LMS Kami Assignment requires the following.
Kami Plan: Feature Control requires a paid Kami license, such as a Teacher Plan or a School/District Plan.
Kami Extension: The extension is not necessarily needed to use the Feature Control, but working with Kami Assignments requires you to have the extension.
Kami Assignment: You can access the Feature Control only when creating a new Kami Assignment or editing an existing one.
Step-by-step instructions
The location of the Feature Control will vary slightly depending on your LMS, but this is the general process for applying Feature Control to your new Kami Assignment.
Step 1: Create a Kami Assignment in your LMS of choice. For more information about creating Kami Assignments, please refer to our help center articles.
Step 2: In the Kami Assignment creation window, find the Feature Control setting and check the checkbox or click the pen icon.
Step 3: Decide if you would like to apply feature controls to your Whole class or Individual students. (You will need to select students one by one via the Select a Student dropdown to apply the feature controls.)
The Individual students option is currently only available to Google Classroom Kami Assignments. We will be rolling out this feature for other LMS in the future, so keep an eye out for updates on our What's new page: https://www.kamiapp.com/product/kami-updates/
Step 4: Review the list of Kami tools and uncheck any tool you want to turn off for all students on this Kami Assignment.
Step 5: Click the Confirm button to save your feature controls.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I set a control for the Whole Class and then a different one for each student on the Individual Students?
What happens if I set a control for the Whole Class and then a different one for each student on the Individual Students?
The setting on the Individual Students will override the Whole Class setting for those specific students. This allows you to manage the majority of your class efficiently while still differentiating for specific student needs.
Can I change the Feature Control settings after the Kami Assignment is posted?
Can I change the Feature Control settings after the Kami Assignment is posted?
Yes. You can edit the Kami Assignment in your LMS via the Edit Assignment feature and update the Feature Control settings. There is one exception: while the Kami Assignments made through Google Classroom Extension integration fully support this, the Kami Assignments made through Google Classroom Add-on integration do not. We plan on changing this soon, so please send us feedback if you would like this to happen sooner.
If I disable a tool, will it also be disabled for me, the teacher?
If I disable a tool, will it also be disabled for me, the teacher?
No. The Feature Control settings only affect students and only apply to that particular Kami Assignment for which you set the Feature Control. You will still be able to see and access all Kami tools for grading and providing feedback. If you have a co-teacher who is acting as a student in a class, ensure that they have access to all tools by adding and configuring their Feature Control settings through the Individual Students tab.
